Great column, guys. WNBA data next year will be more interesting: Novelty of year 1 will be over + a couple of other big collegiate stars with huge social followings (Paige Bueckers and Juju Watkins) will have had an NCAA tournament spotlight onramp for their own debuts in the WNBA next season. Will be more indicative of whether we are riding a larger waive or whether this is a Tiger phenomenon.
I'm really interested if the Tiger Woods career remains viable in the TikTok era, or to argue against myself, whether there's a position above the noise, occupied by Taylor Swift and a few sports stars, who refuse to engage via social channels and remain wonderfully aloof
I've never seen anything on the product life cycle of a star player. assumption is they are shortening. but usually that's to do with injury risk and greater number of games etc.
Important insight and I think the career arc is agnostic to sports and directly linked to how successful the individual is in transforming themselves into a "media hub". Once you become a media hub yourself (think: Mark Cuban), you can spread the brand tentacles wide and how relevant/productive you are on the pitch/sidelines is no longer the critical path.

Don't forget marketing! It's the most important position that so many CEOs don't think they really need. @unofficialpartner
