I think the experiment “didn’t work” because it cuts against two of the core pillars of UP’s USP—long form and thought leadership. The short form isn’t in the DNA, so we ended up with a good podcast discussion, typical to what we expect and enjoy from UP. Not the worst outcome even though it wasn’t intended. UP is too substantive at its core to boil itself down to “inform”. Love the experimentation.
I really, really wondered whether you'd like it Nick, given our recent chat. And your point is absolutely on the money. Is short form something a) anyone/the market wants and b) plays to our strengths? I also wonder whether ten minutes every Friday is the worst of both worlds, and should be either ten minutes a day, or half an hour on a Friday...this is a six week trial running in to Leaders Week, thus James and David's involvement.
